Getting Mozartkugeln at Wien Schwechat airport

To avoid any confusion, this guide only covers the airport near Vienna and what you can get there. Your first and best option – at least when it comes to prices – is probably the Billa Corso in the arriving terminal. Basically, the one you pass through when coming up from the trains.

Billa has a nice selection of different industrially made ones. Of course they have the famous golden Mirabell Mozartkugel, but also some other brands. They also offer the blue wrapped Chocolada ones, which are handmade. You can have a look at our video if you want to see them in more detail.

Overall, if possible and you still have time, you should get your Mozartkugels at Billa Corso. The prices are roughly what you would pay in other grocery stores in Austria, so you won’t break the bank and you can even try different brands.

Another handmade option

Further down your journey, after the security check, it gets quite hefty regarding the prices. You may want to be pickier now as well. One special option are the handmade ones from Leschanz. Those are unique for Vienna, and you can get them at Heinemann right after the security check.

However, getting them at the airport comes with a bigger price tag, so you may want to have a look at our video first. The Leschanz-Mozartkugel contains two different kinds of nougat with a rather small marzipan part on the inside. So definitely more for those of you that prefer a nougaty taste.

Apart from that you can also get some other industrial ones directly at many of the stores around the terminals. You may want to look for some special offers, those can be found quite often.

Any recommendations?

If you are completely new to Mozartkugels and want to get the most recognizable and famous ones then you basically have two options: Mirabell and Reber.

Mirabell is the market leader in Austria. Those golden wrapped Mozart balls have different layers of Nougat and only little Marzipan on the inside.

The second, Reber, is the biggest manufacturer of Mozartkugeln. They are produced in Germany and contain quite a lot of Marzipan, so you should really like the taste of Marzipan. They also contain alcohol which you should be aware of, however there as an alcohol free version which tends to be available on the airport.

The ones from Leschanz mentioned above are quite nice as well. But you probably should try to get them directly in Vienna at their store. The blue ones from Chocolada at Billa Corso are probably the best budget last-minute option at the airport if you want handmade Mozartkugels. They taste more on the nougat side and only contain a small marzipan core.

If possible though we recommend to rather get your Mozartkugeln in Vienna or even Salzburg. We have some articles covering both cities in more detail so you can have a look at all the available options.
