Between 2020 and 2021, Rick Owens held four of his runway shows in Lido, Venice. And of course, when I recently visited Venice, I wanted to check out those places. Even though they are not that hard to find, I still figured I share my findings with you.
Most of Owens’ runway shows in Venice feature well-known landmarks, making it easy to find the right spots. For your convenience, I’ve also created a Google Map to help you track everything down quickly.
Tempio Votivo della Pace – FW21 Mens – Gethsemane
On your way to Lido, you will already see this landmark before even stepping off the boat. Therefore it should be your first stop as well. Right next to the pier, you can easily reach this building, it was the location for the Fall/Winter 21 Mens show Gethsemane. The show caused some controversy since not everyone approved of holding a fashion show in front of the Tempio Votivo della Pace, which led to an apology letter from Rick Owens1 and even a reaction from the granddaughter of the original architect of the building2.

Palazzo del Casinò – SS21 Women – Phlegethon
About a 20-minute walk or a few bus stops down the island you’ll reach the Palazzo del Casinò in front of the beach. This was the location for the Spring/Summer 2021 Women’s show Phlegethon, and it’s quite an imposing, large building.

Lido Beach – SS22 Mens – Fogachine
Turn away from the casino and make your way down to the beach and follow it to the right, further down the island. You should see different kinds of walkways reaching out to the seaside, one of them leading to a round structure. That’s approximately the starting point on the beach for the Spring/Summer 22 Mens show Fogachine. You’ll probably also encounter lots of seashells, which you’ll likely notice in the show’s video once you’ve seen them in person.

Lido Beach – FW21 Womens – Gethsemane
Right from your last stop on Lido Beach, you’ll find another walkway out into the sea. This one has a small concrete structure at the end with some open holes into the sea. This means you just found the runway for the Fall/Winter 21 Women’s Gethsemane show.

Should you visit Lido?
The quick answer for me: Yes! Gethsemane is one of my favorite Rick Owens season and visiting the actual physical sights was therefore quite important for me. So for those die-hard fans among you, it’s really not a question I’d assume. If you’re somewhat unsure, some factors may help you to decide: Are you visiting during the bathing season? It may be quite full on the beach. Again, this is just an assumption, I was there in April, and it was completely empty. Really enjoyable and empty, which means if you want to escape the usually full main paths of Venice it could actually be really refreshing to visit a more quiet place.
