New specialty coffee shops in Vienna in 2024

You want a good cup of coffee in Vienna? Well, I got you covered and present you the latest additions of specialty coffees to the city and how I liked them.

Café Fokus

In January a new coffee shop opened in the 2nd district of Vienna: Café Fokus. It’s located in the Kleine Pfarrgasse 28 and the coffee they offer is currently from Nomad, a roaster from Barcelona. When visiting you should definitely check out the beautiful interior and sit down on the upper floor to enjoy your coffee. Here you can select between different roasts for Espresso as well as filter coffees.

The Good Coffee Society Lab

Already the third location in Vienna, the Good Coffee Society opened in April a store in the Liechtensteinstraße 46. Here you can choose from an even wider range of different beans than usual, hence the “Lab” name for this location. For filter fans definitely worth a visit, but of course also if you’re just passing by and getting an espresso or milk based beverage.

OTOTO Store & Coffee

Long-time specialty coffee fans already know the address, at Zieglergasse 38, Wolfgang Coffee has been serving great espresso and beans for many years. And you can still get them there, but with a new name, a different interior and a new shop concept around it. This means that apart from good coffee you can also get various products, food and snacks from smaller manufacturers.

MANANA cafẽ

The 18th district has always felt a bit empty when it comes to specialty coffee shops, but luckily that changed in June when Manana opened at Schulgasse 31. Although the place is rather small, the interior has its charms and there is an outdoor terrace in the summer. You can get different beans from several different roasters and they roast themselves as well.

Beandependent

The summer also saw the opening of not only a new specialty coffee shop, but also a new roaster in Vienna. Beandependent offers its own roasted coffees in various brewing methods in a rather minimalist space at Lessinggasse 19. As usual, Espresso lovers as well as filter fans will get a nice selection of different coffees to try.

NÜD Coffee&Art

Close to Kärntnerstrasse in Akademiestrasse 2, NÜD opened this summer. A small space with some outdoor seating in the summer offers a variety of coffee drinks made with beans from Romanian roaster Sloane.

Koun Coffee

This name may be familiar to some of you, Koun first opened in the 22nd district of Vienna, but closed there a while ago. At the end of November they reopened in the 4th district, at Wiedner Hauptstraße 37. Although the space is rather small, they offer coffee beans that they roast themselves, with quite a nice selection to choose from.

The Coffee

In summer the international chain The Coffee also opened a store in the 1st district at Goldschmiedgasse 10. If you already know them then there are no surprises here, you can order via touch screen and choose between 3 filter roasts or one espresso roast as well as many other beverages. The store itself is rather small and minimalistic.

The Miners

Another chain, Miners, opened a shop in Vienna in December. Located at Getreidemarkt 1, you can get a variety of beans that they roast themselves, but at the moment the selection of coffees they serve is rather limited, with only dark-roasted espresso and (one type of) batch brew. It’s a shared space with online electronics chain Alza, should you need anything from them.

How are the new coffees?

With a total number of 9 new coffees, 2024 was a big year for new specialty coffee shop openings in Vienna. Of course, some of them only changed their name or location and two are known chains with shops all over the world. But there are still some very interesting newcomers!

As always, it comes down to taste and the drink you prefer. For a fruity espresso, most of the new coffees will suffice, with the exception of The Coffee, The Miners or NÜD, where you can only choose one (dark) roast. If you want to try a new (local) roaster, you have to visit Beandependent. If you’re looking for the widest selection / types of coffees, the Good Coffee Society Lab has got you covered.
